EV Safetry Training and Certification Event - Preceding NTEA Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit
An EV Technician Safety Training Event Followed by an Opportunity to Earn AVTECC EV Safe Certification - A Hands-On EV Safety Certification Exam
Description
This course is designed to introduce electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) technology, systems, and safety to a variety of workers involved in the vehicle maintenance, service, and repair sectors.
During this course, participants will become familiar with EV’s and HEV’s and will be able to describe electric vehicle technology to customers, employees, and supervisors.
A focus on working safely around EVs will be emphasized. Electric vehicle facility preparation, required tooling, and personal protective equipment, and emergency response will be covered in detail with the goal of preparing participants for implementing EV service, repair, and diagnosis in the workplace.
Registration
The EV Safety Training and Certification Event is an independent training opportunity and is not affiliated with NTEA's Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit. While this training is conveniently scheduled the day before the Summit and held at the same location - Kalahari Resorts & Conventions - it is a separate event that requires its own registration.
Note: Participation is limited to eight attendees and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure a spot.

AVTECC EV Safe® Certification Event – Technician Skills Validation
The AVTECC EV Safe® Certification is a hands-on, skills-based credentialing opportunity designed to validate technician competence in EV safety procedures. This certification ensures technicians are qualified to safely interact with, service, and support high-voltage EV platforms in accordance with industry standards and OEM-recommended practices.
During the event, each participating technician will be provided with a scheduled, one-on-one assessment appointment. This individualized format ensures a fair and focused evaluation environment where candidates can confidently demonstrate their mastery of key competencies. These include:
-
Proper use of personal PPE
-
Identification and mitigation of high-voltage hazards
-
Verification of system voltage state (safe vs. live)
-
Use of manufacturer-specific service procedures
-
Application of lockout/tagout procedures
-
Correct tool usage and equipment inspection
Certified AVTECC proctors will observe and document each technician’s performance using standardized rubrics derived from a job task analysis and aligned with industry expectations. Upon successful demonstration of all required skills, technicians will be awarded the EV Safe® Certification, an industry-recognized credential signaling their readiness to safely work on high-voltage vehicles.
This event structure supports high-quality assessment while maintaining individual attention and performance integrity—ensuring that certification is earned, not assumed. AVTECC’s performance-based model is trusted by employers to represent verified technical competence in the rapidly evolving EV service landscape.
