Description

This class offers a fast-paced, hands-on overview of electrical systems, diagnostic strategies, and repair processes to prepare the technician for the diagnosis and repair of vehicle electrical systems concerns. This course provides content in preparation for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A6 – Automotive Electricity and Electronics certification exam.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the technician will be able to:
- Describe the principles and laws of electricity
- Identify and describe circuit components including conductors, circuit protection, loads, and control devices
- Utilize digital multimeters to perform voltage, amperage, resistance, and voltage drop measurements
- Describe the design and operation of series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits
- Diagnose circuit faults including opens, high resistance, and shorts
- Explain the relationship between magnetism and electricity
- Diagnose electromagnetic devices including relays and solenoids
- Utilize wiring diagrams to determine a diagnostic strategy
- Repair vehicle wiring and connectors to factory specification
- Diagnose 12-Volt starting and charging system concerns
