Electric vehicle safety and systems for those involved in service and repair of electrified vehicles
Description
This course is designed to introduce electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) technology, systems, and safety to a variety of workers involved in the vehicle maintenance, service, and repair sectors. During this course, participants will become familiar with EV’s and HEV’s and will be able to describe electric vehicle technology to customers, employees, and supervisors. A focus on working safely around Electric Vehicles will be emphasized. Electric vehicle facility preparation, required tooling, and personal protective equipment, and emergency response will be covered in detail with the goal of preparing participants for implementing EV service, repair, and diagnosis in the workplace. The course concludes with a 20-question exam resulting in a certificate of completion.
**This course prepares participants for the ASE Level 1 and Level 2 xEV certification.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the technician will be able to:
- Describe xEV safety standards, laws, and regulations including: ASE, SAE, ISO, ASTM, FMVSS, etc.
- Describe the operating systems of electric vehicles
- Locate critical service information and manufacturer first responder guides
- Describe xEV emergency response
- Identify vehicle charging standards and equipment
- Describe industry standards regulating electric vehicles
- Demonstrate best practices for PPE selection, usage, and testing
- Demonstrate all safety protocols for working with electric vehicles
- Identify best practices for repair facilities
- Perform high-voltage system deactivation
